+The Internet is a medium synonymous with modern communication. It's weaved into the fabric of reality, setting the boundaries of what types of communication are possible. High-bandwidth, high availability networks are implicit in our daily life. Communicating with our neighbours with the same tool we use to talk to people on the other end of the world seems rather excessive. Why race on the information superhighway when you can leisurely cycle on the information bike lane? What if there was a communication medium where information only exists for a brief moment when it's transmitted, with the data not being encapsulated in packets, routed all over the world and saved along the way?

+We invite you to explore audio only, short range communications together. During a 3-day hands-on workshop we'll investigate license-free radio as a low-tech and low-power medium for keeping in touch with each other. We want to look at radio as a medium that you can participate in instead of consuming it. We'll explore the aspects of locality and community present in radio.

+During the workshop we'll experience talking to each other using a PMR radio. We'd like to practice running a radio net together. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to send and receive a low quality picture using SSTV! We want to create space for technical and non-technical discussions around radio. If the space weather allows we'll show you the wonderful world of ham radio & high-frequency communications.

+If you are interested please register by filling in this form: https://cloud.kotec.space/apps/forms/GKAEGrHG47sTsEfy by 1 December 2022. You don't need to know anything about radio in advance. We're looking for a group of 15-20 people with interest in communication. Attendance on all three days is appreciated.

+Het internet is een medium dat synoniem staat voor moderne communicatie. Het is verweven met de realiteit en stelt grenzen aan de soorten communicatie die mogelijk zijn. Netwerken met hoge bandbreedte en hoge beschikbaarheid zijn vanzelfsprekend geworden in ons dagelijks leven. Communiceren met onze buren met dezelfde tool die we gebruiken om met mensen aan de andere kant van de wereld te praten, lijkt nogal overdreven. Waarom racen op de informatie supersnelweg als je ook op je gemak kunt fietsen op het informatie fietspad? Wat als er een communicatiemedium bestond waar je informatie alleen maar bestaat voor een vluchtig moment wanneer het uitgezonden wordt, zonder ingekapselde datapakketten die over de hele wereld verzonden worden en opgeslagen op servers waar je geen weet van hebt?

+We nodigen je uit om samen korte afstand communicatie met alleen audio te verkennen. Gedurende een 3-daagse hands-on workshop onderzoeken we samen licentievrije radio als een low-tech en low-power medium om met elkaar in contact te blijven. We willen radio zien als een medium waaraan je kunt deelnemen in plaats van het alleen te consumeren. We zullen aspecten van lokaliteit en gemeenschap onderzoeken die op de radio aanwezig zijn.

+Tijdens de workshop ervaren we hoe we met elkaar kunnen praten via een PMR-radio. We willen graag samen uit proberen hoe het is om een radionet te runnen. Daarnaast is er de mogelijkheid om een afbeelding van lage kwaliteit te verzenden en te ontvangen met SSTV! We willen ruimte creëren voor technische en niet-technische discussies rondom radio. Als het ruimteweer het toelaat, laten we je de wondere wereld van hamradio en hoogfrequente communicatie zien.

Je hoeft van tevoren niets van radio communicatie te weten. We zoeken een groep van 15-20 mensen met interesse in communicatie. Aanwezigheid op alle drie de dagen wordt op prijs gesteld.
