We invite you to "Gardening as Electricity Making," a workshop that celebrates the interplay of soil, electricity, life, and the internet.
First we will introduce the project Tree-001, which the workshop is a part of. It is a research project that aims to sync the network infrastructure to the lifecycle of a tree.
The main action will be a hands-on session where we will make mud-cells using soil and water, connect up electrodes to the mud, and measure the gentle current the cells produce with an analog multimeter and an oscilloscope. Well try powering an arduino with the cells too.
Then we will have a conversation session altogether about the potentials of soil-generated electricity, and the act of building and maintaining a garden that can power small electronic devices.
The workshop is co-created by Sunjoo Lee and Timm Donke with Varia, and the project is supported by Stimuleringsfonds. The poster is designed by Seokyung Kim.
Bring your own soil and containers if you can.
If not, you can use the soil and containers provided from us.
The containers can be of any shape and size between about 300 ml to 2 L, should be able to contain watery soil, and should not be conductive. Lid is not necessary.
